City of Southlake

What is the SPIN Standing Committee?

The SPIN Standing Committee is comprised of council-appointed representatives from 11 geographic areas within Southlake and two special interest representatives from the youth and senior communities.

In addition to hosting forums on projects within their districts, the members also meet with each other monthly at the SPIN Standing Committee meeting which is held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6PM.  These meetings include a presentation from one of the City's directors on a current project or topic of interest.  The members also have an opportunity to report on activities in their neighborhoods.

SPIN Representative Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a SPIN Standing Committee member include:

1.  Host Citywide and Neighborhood Forums
To host a forum, SPIN representatives must first speak with developers to determine if a meeting is necessary.  If it is, the representative calls the meeting by informing the city staff liaison who then schedules and advertises the meeting.  The representative then attends the meeting in order to offer a welcome to attendees and serve as a host for the meeting.

2.  Stay Informed
Since SPIN representatives are the neighborhoods' direct connection to the City, representatives must be committed to following the City Council and Planning and Zoning agendas, attend City information meetings, and maintain regular attendance at the SPIN Standing Committee meetings.

3.  Communicate
SPIN representatives are expected to establish contact with all homeowners associations (HOA) in their area, locate liaisons for developments with no HOA and develop a communication system to keep their SPIN area informed.  Representatives are also expected to be available to residents who have questions, concerns or complaints and forward those on to the City staff liaison to address and respond.
