Proclamation - Child Abuse Prevention Month

Whereas , 163,471 investigations regarding reports of child abuse or neglect were completed in Texas in 2007, with 11,529 of those being completed in Tarrant County; and,
 
Whereas, 3,310 cases of child abuse or neglect were confirmed in Tarrant County in 2007; and,

Whereas, Alliance For Children provided child-focused services to 2,664 children in 2007; which includes 516 children in the Northeast community; and,

Whereas, child abuse prevention is a community responsibility and finding solutions depends on involvement among all people; and,

Whereas, communities must make every effort to promote programs that benefit children and their families; and,

Whereas, effective child abuse prevention programs succeed because of partnerships among agencies, schools, religious organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business community; and,

Whereas, everyone in the community should become more aware of child abuse prevention and consider helping parents raise their children in a safe, nurturing environment; now,

Therefore, I, Andy Wambsganss, Mayor of the City of Southlake, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2008, as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
