Proclamation - Central Texas Annual Conference Week

This meeting of the Central Texas Annual Conference marks the 143rd anniversary of the organization of the Church now known as The United Methodist Church, the 42nd session since the formal organization and unification of The United Methodist Church, and the 40th session since the merger of the previous Central Texas Conference with a group of churches of the previous West Texas Conference; and,

Whereas, The United Methodist Church represents some 12 million members in 130 countries and 122 Annual or Central Conferences; and,

Whereas, the delegates of this Annual Conference represent some 164,000 members from over 300 churches in the 7 Districts of the Central Texas Conference; and,

Whereas, over 550 conference clergy members have faithfully served the various needs of the communities of the Central Texas area; and,

Whereas, the Central Texas Annual Conference has contributed over $1 million in humanitarian aid and world benevolences; now,

Therefore, I, John Terrell, Mayor of the City of Southlake, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of June 7-13, 2009, as
