Proclamation - PKD Awareness Month

The Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation is devoted to promoting research to find a cure for PKD and to improving the care and treatment of those it affects; and,

Whereas, Polycystic Kidney Disease is one of the most common, life-threatening genetic diseases, affecting 600,000 Americans and 12.5 million people worldwide - regardless of gender, age, race or ethnic origin; and,

Whereas, the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation is a volunteer-driven organization that helps coordinate and run each and every Walk for PKD event. The event commitment reflects support and responsibility at the local level, beginning with individual families and communities, to ensure continued improvement in the quality of all citizen's lives; and,

Whereas, the City of Southlake has an interest in the development and provision of high quality services to children, youth and families who suffer from this disease. During the Polycystic Kidney Disease Awareness Month and beyond, the citizens from the City of Southlake will join together to recognize and further their commitment to reach a cure for those affected by Polycystic Kidney Disease; now,

Therefore, I, John Terrell, Mayor of the City of Southlake, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim September 2009, as

Polycystic Kidney Disease Awareness Month
