New Southlake Outdoor Sirens Ready To Make Some Noise

The City of Southlake's Department of Public Safety announces the installation and activation of the Outdoor Warning Siren system. The siren system currently consists of four strategically located sirens within Southlake and tone alert radios for each public school within Southlake.  The sirens are located at:

  • DPS West facility-2100 West Southlake Blvd
  • Public Works Operations-1950 East Continental
  • Bob Jones Park-3901 North White Chapel
  • Bicentennial Park-400 North White Chapel
  • A fifth siren located at the DPS East Facility will be installed in the near future.

"The combination of the Tone Alert Radios and Outdoor Warning Sirens will provide Southlake schools, residents and visitors with essential emergency information prior to a severe weather event," said  Fire Chief Robert Finn, "With the push of a button we can send emergency alerts to the schools and voice messages to the siren, and with the flip of a switch we can activate the tornado warning tone which will play continuously for three minutes."

A monthly test taking place at noon on the first Wednesday of the month will help ensure the sirens stay in good working order.  The tests are contingent on good weather and will not take place if bad weather is forecasted.  The siren test will be followed by a verbal announcement acknowledging the test.

The Community Notification System was made possible by a grant from the M.R. and Evelyn Hudson Foundation and the Southlake City Council. The Hudson Foundation donated $100,000 towards the purchase and installation of the Outdoor Warning Sirens. City Council's guidance and support helped make the project a reality.
