In January 1999, the City Council took the first steps toward
developing the Southlake Public Library by establishing a Library
advisory board. This seven-member appointed advisory board
was involved with design of the library space at Town Hall.
The Library opened Sept. 26, 2001. It occupies 10,375 square feet
on the first level of the four-story building, with another 1,800 square feet
of staff work space on the third floor.
What is the Library's mission?
The mission of the Southlake Public Library is to provide books, materials
and services to residents of all ages to assist in their pursuit of information
and resources to meet their educational, professional, cultural,
recreational and personal needs.
What types of items are in the Library's collection?
The Library has books, books on tape and CD, videos, DVDs, music CDs,
graphic novels, and magazines for both young and old. There are two
special collections, as well: parenting and local history.
The Library also provides several sources of business and personal
finance information, including the Wall Street Journal, Investors Business Daily,
The Economist, Fort Worth Business Weekly, Dallas Business Weekly,
Business Week, Money, Forbes, Fortune, Entrepreneur, and Inc. Magazine,
to name just a few. Call or stop by and make us your business information source!

The Library accepts donations of new and used books, DVDs, videos, and CDs.
Depending on our current needs, some items will go into the library collection and
others will be sold by the Friends of the Southlake Library (FOSL) at our ongoing
booksale. FOSL uses these proceeds to purchase new materials and
equipment for the Library.
Can I volunteer at the Library?
We always welcome volunteers, and have a special need for adult ones.
Donating even 2 hours a week makes a big difference, and volunteering
at the library is a great way to give back to your community. Please contact
Nicola Jesse - or any staff member - for more information!
How else can I help the library?
If you are a member of a group or organization that has something interesting to
show the Southlake community, we may be able to make our display cases
available to you. For more information, please contact Kerry McGeath,
the City Librarian, at (817) 748-8384.
