Trees are an integral part of Southlake's identity and infrastructure. Being positioned in the middle of the Eastern Cross Timbers Region of North Texas creates a unique situation where the soils and local climate support a niche of trees and associated plant material that make up the identity of the Eastern Cross Timbers and the City of Southlake.

One goal of the Department of Planning and Development Services is to protect this identity through education, tree preservation, development and design quality, enforcement, teamwork, and the application of conscientious regulations. By working with developers, builders, engineers, landscape architects and homeowners we can preserve the integrity of the Eastern Cross Timbers and create a sustainable environment for the trees and the community alike.
