Parental Assistance Program
The Southlake Police provide parents with confidential assistance in dealing with a teen involved with drugs or alcohol abuse.
Parental Assistance Program
Many times parents are concerned about their teen’s behavior and suspect an issue deeper than then usual teenage angst. Some parents lack experience in drug issues and are too embarrassed to confide in people regarding a potentially embarrassing situation.
Other times, a parent is not familiar with new drugs or the symptoms of their use. Instead of confronting their teen and risking a confrontation, a parent may choose to follow the path of least resistance. It is very rare that a teen’s experimentation or use with drugs will simply “work itself out.”
If you are a parent concerned that your teen may, in fact, be using drugs, the Southlake Police are available for you. Upon your request, an officer will meet with you to discuss the issues, or come to your home to and assist in identifying possible of drug use.
Here’s what we can do for you:
- Provide a confidential discussion about behavior changes indicating possible drug / alcohol use.
- Visit your home (plain clothes and in an unmarked car) when your child is not at home. We’ll assist you in identifying possible evidence of drug or alcohol use.
- Provide alcohol breath-test devices.
- Destroy identified contraband with no criminal charges filed (if amounts indicate purely personal use of the substance).
- Provide referrals to professionals who can intervene in a possible drug or alcohol abuse situation.
- Provide referrals to other parents who have faced similar situations.
- Provide a confidential means for you to share information on drug or underage alcohol activities in the community.
We will request your need for confidentiality; the Southlake Police are committed to providing assistance and support to parents dealing with a teen chemical abuse problem. We are committed to keeping our youth drug and alcohol-free!
