Police Hiring
These are the qualifications for eligibility as a Southlake Police Officer. The site includes information on testing requirements and job benefits.
Southlake police officers perform a variety of duties in the enforcement of laws, the protection of persons and property, and the prevention of crimes; they also perform specialized functionsin their assigned areas of responsibility.
Starting salary for a police recruit (not yet licensed as a peace officer) is $3,261.72 per month plus benefits while attending the police academy. Starting salary for a police officer (TCLEOSE-licensed) is $44,774.10 annually, with step increases up to $58,420.04 annually. The City of Southlake is a member of the Texas Municipal Retirement System and matches employees’ 7% contributions at a rate of 2 to 1.
The Southlake Department of Public Safety has joined with the police departments of Euless, Hurst, and North Richland Hills in the Police Agency Combined Testing (P.A.C.T.) program. Interested applicants who participate in the P.A.C.T. testing process have the opportunity to test with all four agencies during the event. All preliminary testing and screening is administered twice per year, once in the Spring and again in the Fall.

Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Have a high school or general equivalency diploma (GED)
- Must currently be licensed, or able to be immediately licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) at the time of hire. Sixty (60) hours of college credit from an accredited college or university is required for those individuals who are not able to be immediately licensed by TCLEOSE at the time of hire.
- Meet all minimum standards (other than completion of police academy training) for licensure as a peace officer as defined in the Texas Administrative Code, Title 37, Part VII, Ch. 217.1.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a Texas driver's license effective by the date of hire.
- Pass a physical agility/ability evaluation, written examination, oral interview board, background investigation, medical examination, psychological fitness evaluation, and polygraph examination.

A Police Career in Southlake
Officers have advancement opportunities to the ranks of corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain. They may also work in specializedareas including Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, Criminal Investigations, Community Initiatives, and Professional Standards.
Officers also may compete for available Public Safety Officer positions. Public Safety Officers (PSOs) are uniquely-qualified employees who have been cross-trained as police officers, emergency medical technicians, and firefighters. Assignment as a PSO carries with it added responsibility and compensation.
