Our Mission

It is the mission of the Police Services Division of Southlake DPS to contribute to the growth and development of our community by effectively and efficiently providing the highest level of professionalism.  We also are also dedicated to protecting lives and property while preserving the public peace with the highest ethical standards.

About Police Services

Southlake Police Services is a division within the Southlake Department of Public Safety.  Under the leadership of Police Chief Steve Mylett, the department has more than 50 personnel.  The agency obtained national accreditation status in March 2000 and maintains that honor to date. 

Core Services

The Police Services Division is under the command of Police Chief Steve Mylett and is comprised of police personnel in Patrol, Traffic, and Criminal Investigation sections.

Patrol

Patrol Operations are commanded by Lieutenant Mike Dunn.  The primary purpose for patrol is to respond to police calls, enforce traffic laws, interact with the community, and preserve the peace.  Patrol Operations is divided into four twelve hour shifts, each supervised by a shift sergeant.  Patrol Operations also monitors animal control services, which is supervised by an administrative corporal and handled by a field services officer.

   

Traffic

The Traffic Operations Section is under the command of the Patrol Lieutenant and is supervised by the Traffic Sergeant Gaylon Music.  Traffic's primary purpose is to enforce traffic laws and investigate traffic accidents.  This group also provides traffic direction and control when it is needed in the community.

   

Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is under the command of CID Lieutenant Ashleigh Douglas.  Day to day supervision is handled by a sergeant. The primary purpose for CID is to investigate crimes and determine if there is a cause of prosecution.  This group also provides victim and witness assistance, and secures search and arrest warrants when required.  Property and evidence control and the School Resource Officers (SRO) also falls under CID.
