Home and Business Security Surveys

A certified Crime Prevention Officer will inspect your business or home, suggesting security modifications as needed. Texas homeowners may be eligible for reduction on their insurance premiums when meeting state inspection criteria.

Security Surveys are a large part of crime prevention.  At no charge, a certified Crime Prevention Officer will provide you with a confidential security survey of your property.

Commercial Security Survey:

A commercial security survey can be conducted for any commercial, retail, or service business within Southlake.  Upon request, an officer will conduct a comprehensive inspection of your business.  The officer will review the inspection results with you and suggest modifications to improve deterrence to crime.  In addition, the officer will discuss internal loss, key control, robbery prevention, and crime prevention through environmental design.

Home Security Survey:

You may be able to save money on your home insurance premiums by taking advantage of the Home Security Survey offered by the Southlake Police.  In addition to saving money, you can have a sense of peace after updating your home's security defenses.

An officer will inspect your home, discussing interior and exterior security, locks, lighting, and doors with you.  The officer will also prepare a security plan specific to your home, making a recommendation for modifications if needed.

5% Insurance Premium Reduction:

The Texas Insurance Code grants a 5% reduction on homeowner's insurance if the residence meets certain basic security requirements: deadbolt locks on all exterior doors, secondary locking devices on all windows, and secondary locking devices on garage doors.  If your home passes all elements of the survey, the officer inspecting the home will submit a report to the Texas Insurance Board for your reduction.  If the home does not pass, the officer will advise you on how to bring the home up to code for the insurance discount.

15% Insurance Premium Reduction:

The Texas Insurance Code also grants a 15% reduction on your premiums if the residence meets certain advanced requirements.  A home must qualify for the 5% reduction first before qualifying for the 15 % reduction.  For the 15%, the property must meet the following:  all exterior openings are wired into the alarm system, the alarm system has an interior and exterior siren, all equipment is U.L. approved and is monitored by a U.L. approved alarm station.
