City of Southlake

Traffic Division

Traffic Division enforces traffic laws, investigates accidents, works special enforcement details, and special events.

Southlake Traffic Officers enforce traffic laws, investigate accidents, and conduct traffic studies when requested.  In addition, Traffic Officers work traffic control for special events when traffic through the city will be especially heavy (such as concerts or race weekends at Texas Motor Speedway, city parades, and street festivals such as Oktoberfest or Art in the Square).  Traffic officers also answer calls for service when call volumes peak.

Most Southlake Traffic Officers are also Accident Reconstructionists, a specialized field used to investigate complex accident scenes, as well as all fatality accidents.  The Accident Reconstructionists assist other agencies with fatality accidents or other high profile instances when specialized equipment is of benefit to the investigation.  You may see Southlake Traffic Officers using laser radars, electronic distance measuring devices, and computer diagramming software as a part of their accident investigation efforts.

Southlake Traffic Officers ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles and enjoy the Harley-Davidson's because of their ability to move easily through congested traffic areas. During inclement weather, Traffic Officers move into Ford Crown Victorias to continue their enforcement duties.

Traffic Officers work 10-hour shifts, with staffing hour changes as needed based on peak traffic volume, seasonal events, and accident rates.  Sergeant Gaylon Music supervises the Traffic Division and may be reached at 817-748-8130.
