Septic to Sewer
Below is a step-by-step guide to determining if sanitary sewer is available in your area if you are currently using a septic system.

No:
- If sanitary sewer is not available in your area, you may make a written request to the Public Works Department. Your written request will be evaluated and considered for future Neighborhood Sewer Programs as part of the City's on-going Capital Improvements Program (CIP).
Please write to:
City of Southlake, Public Works Department, C/o City Engineer, 1400 Main St., Suite 320, Southlake, TX 76092.
Step 2 - Application and Fees:
- If your sub-division or street is on the list, and/or you have confirmed that City sewer is available to your property, you may apply for a septic-to-sewer conversion. Please complete the top portion of the water meter assessment form available through the Utility Billing Office by clicking on "Service Forms".Please write "Septic-to-Sewer" at the top of the form. The completed form may be turned in to Suite 200 of Town Hall or may be faxed to the Utility Billing Office.
- The application process will take 5-7 business days in order to confirm the location of the sanitary sewer in your area, and to assess the appropriate participation fee, tap fee, inspection fee and application fee. All applicable participation and tap fees will apply and may total up to $ 3,015 ($1,300/lot participation fee, $1,700 tap fee, and $15 application fee) to connect to City sewer. The tap fee may or may not be applicable depending on whether or not there is an existing tap from the main line to the property line available. If a tap is not available, the $1,700 tap fee would not apply, and the homeowner would be required to contract with a licensed plumber to make both the tap and the final connection to the residence.
Step 3 - Contracting with a Licensed Plumber:
- Upon applying for sanitary sewer service with the City's Utility Billing Department and payment of the required City fees, the resident will be responsible for contracting with a licensed plumber to connect the sewer from the property line to the actual residence. The City recommends all interested homeowners obtain three (3) estimates from licensed, registered, plumbers before making a selection. The cost of this work will depend on the distance from the existing sewer line in the Right-of-Way to the home. This cost is separate from any City fees.
- Once all applicable City fees have been paid to the Utility Billing Office, the resident or licensed plumber will take the payment receipt to the Building Services Window on the 2nd Floor of Town Hall to apply for a plumbing permit (Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing Permit).
- Upon receipt of an approved plumbing permit, the plumber may begin the connection from the exising City sewer line to the home.
Step 4 - Questions about your existing Septic System:
The installation and removal of septic systems is overseen by the Tarrant County Public Health Department. For questions regarding your existing septic system, please visit the Tarrant County Public Health Department or call 817-321-4700. Their website also offers valuable information for maintaining your existing septic system in the event City sewer is not available.
