What

What is Teen Court?

We're here to help you keep this ticket off of your record! But you have to do the work to ensure that the ticket does not become a conviction.

After you have enrolled in Teen Court at your municipal court plea hearing, you will come to Teen Court to have your case heard by a jury of your peers. This jury is composed of other teens, just like you, who have already been defendants or are volunteering. After they hear your case, they will assign you community service hours and jury terms. It's now up to you to complete them! We will give you a completion date after the jury gives you your assignments. Once you successfully complete everything, your citation(s) will be dismissed and will not appear on your record as a conviction.

Types of violations

  • Class C misdemeanors only
  • Teen Court juries use a strict guideline in assessing community service hours, based on the type and level of violation. Take a look at our Discipline Grid to see how many hours and jury terms you will probably be assigned.

Fines

  • You pay a $20 administrative fee to participate in Teen Court, but you do not pay your citation fine or taxes.
  • If you do not successfully complete Teen Court, you will not be refunded the $20 administrative fee and be required to pay the citation fine and taxes.

Please refer to the city that you received your citation in for more information on citation fines and taxes.
