How many hours will I get?

• • That depends on the level of your offense. Please see the discipline grid.

 
What are jury terms? 

• • Jury terms are part of your sentence. You will be required to come back to Teen Court to sit on a jury panel to hear cases of other defendants and assign hours. You don't have to schedule your jury terms. Just come in during a Tuesday Teen Court session and sign in between 5:00pm and 6:00pm. 
     

When can I begin my hours?

• • You can start doing your hours after you are given your timecard by the Teen Court Staff. If your parent comes with you to your Municipal Court Plea Hearing, your paperwork can be notarized and you can begin your hours immediately. 

 
Where can I do my community service?

• • Your hours must be done at a non-profit organization with a 501(c)3 or public entity. Please refer to the Community Service Worksite List. If you are interested in volunteering at another location, contact the Teen Court office prior to volunteering. If you complete hours that are not pre-approved by the Teen Court office you may run the risk of having your case returned to court.

 
When and where can I drop off my donations for 1 jury term?

• • You may drop off your donations ONLY during a Teen Court session between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. Donations will not be accepted by the Municipal Courts.
     

How long do I have to complete my hours?

• • You have 90 days from the date of your Teen Court hearing to finish all of your hours and jury terms. This time frame is state mandated.

 
What happens if I don't finish on time?

• • We are required to refer your case back to the municipal court. You may have a conviction on your record for the offense(s) and will be required to pay the fines and taxes associated with the citation(s).
  • If you have extenuating circumstances that include family or medical emergencies, please fill out the Defendant Request for Extension form. Extenuating circumstances do not include athletic practices or games, school activities, a busy work schedule and procrastination.

 
Where do I have to go for my Teen Court hearing?

• • 600 State Street, Southlake, TX 76092. Teen Court is held at Southlake DPS Headquarters, located at the corner of North Carroll and Division Street. If you need directions, please click here.

 
Does my parent have to come to my hearing? 

• • If you are under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present when you have your case heard in Teen Court.

 
What do I need to wear? 

• • Courtroom attire is required. No flip-flops (sandals need a back-strap), shorts, short skirts, tank tops, jeans with rips or holes, hats/caps, or inappropriate t-shirts. If you do not adhere to the dress code, you will be sent home. Final determination of appropriate attire will be made by the teen court staff.

 
Do I have to bring anything with me? 

• • Yes, please bring the timecard you received when you enrolled in Teen Court. Staff will sign off on your timecard every time you come into Teen Court. 

 
Where can I turn in my hours?

• • You can turn them in during a Tuesday night Teen Court session or at the Southlake Municipal Court window (at 600 State Street- on the first floor) Monday - Friday from 8am-5pm.

 
Can I do my last jury term on the same night as my completion date?

• • You sure can. Just turn in your timecard after you finish that last jury term.
