FAQs

How many hours will I get?

• That depends on the level of your offense.  Please see the discipline grid. 

What are jury terms? 

• Jury terms are part of your sentence.  You will be required to come back to Teen Court to sit on a jury panel to hear cases of other defendants and assign hours and jury terms.  You don't have to sign up for a jury term prior to coming.  Just come on in during a Teen Court session and sign in between 5:15pm and 6:00pm.  Be sure to get a green jury slip before leaving, after you have completed a jury term.  

When can I begin my hours?

• You can start doing your hours after you have your case heard in Teen Court.  Hours performed before your court date will not count towards the completion of Teen Court. 

Where can I do my community service?

• Your hours must be done at a non-profit organization in Southlake, Grapevine or Colleyville.  Please refer to the community service worksites.  If these don't work for you, contact the Teen Court office before doing hours at a worksite that is not approved. 

When and where can I drop off my donations for 10 hours of community service?

• You may drop off your donations ONLY during a Teen Court session between 5:15pm and 7pm.  Donations will not be accepted by the Municipal Courts. 

How long do I have to complete my hours?

• You have 90 days from the date of your Teen Court hearing to finish all of your hours and jury terms.  This is state law, and we must respect the time limit. 

What happens if I don't finish on time?

• We are required by state law to refer your case back to the municipal court.  You will have a conviction on your record for the offense(s) and will be required to pay the fines and taxes associated with the citation(s). 

Will there be a warrant for my arrest if I don't complete Teen Court?

• NO! 

Do I have to pay my fine?

• No.  You only have to pay your fine if you do not successfully complete Teen Court. 

Where do I have to go for my Teen Court hearing?

• 1400 Main Street, Southlake, TX  76092.  Teen Court is held at the Southlake Town Hall, located in Town Square off FM 1709 and Carroll Ave.  If you need directions, please click here. 

I'm 17, does my parent have to come to my hearing? 

• Yes.  If you are under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present when you have your case heard in Teen Court.

What do I need to wear? 

• Courtroom attire is preferred.  No flip-flops, shorts, short skirts, tank tops, hats/caps, or inappropriate t-shirts.  If you do not adhere to the dress code, you will be sent home.  Final determination of appropriate attire will be made by the teen court coordinator or the teen court office assistant. 

Do I have to bring anything with me? 

• Yes and no.  Bring the agreement form and emergency release form that you received when you enrolled in Teen Court.  The forms must be notarized before you come.  However, if we notarized the forms when you enrolled, we will have the forms in your file when  you check in. 

Where can I turn in my hours?

• You can turn them in during a Teen Court session; in the Teen Court office located in the Southlake Town Hall Municipal Court; or at the Southlake Town Hall Municipal Court window from 8am-5pm. 

Can I do my last jury term on the same night as my completion date?

• You sure can.  Just turn in your timecard and green jury slips after you finish that last jury term.
