Where can I get information on library news and events?

 The library newsletter contains information on library events and resources.

  

Is there a bookdrop outside the Library?  

The Library now offers three convenient locations for bookdrops. Our drive-up bookdrop is designated for all library materials and is located between Tyler's and the West Parking Garage. Additionally, two bookdrops are located on the north side of Town Hall, across the street from Origins. One is designated for books, the other for audio-visual materials (videos, kits, audiobooks, cassettes, DVDs, and CDs).  Our newest bookdrop is located in the Lobby of the DPS West facility, located at 2100 W.Southlake Blvd.

  

How can I reserve materials?

To reserve materials, contact the Library at (817) 748-8243.  DVD and VHS movies are held for 2 days.  Books and other materials are held for 4 days.  Only three DVDs and 3 VHS movies may be checked out on an account at one time. 

 

How can I renew the items that are checked out to me?

Materials may be renewed until reserved by another customer. To renew materials, contact the Library at (817) 748-8243. In addition, library cardholders have the ability to see what items are checked
out on their cards, renew items, place hold requests on items, view fines and other blocks, and change their personal account information online.  Click My Account under Quick Links to start using the system today!

You will need your full library card number and the last 4 digits of your home phone number to log in. Make sure to let us know about changes to your home phone number so that your ability to view your account will not be affected!  

Some items may not be renewable or may be on hold for another customer - please check the status of the items in your account after you renew them

  

How do I get a Southlake Public Library card?

Southlake residents must present proof of a residence address or property ownership (Texas Driver's License, utility bill, tax statement).  Children under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in order to obtain a library card. Non-residents may obtain a library card for an annual fee of $25.00 per card per person, or may obtain a free TexShare card from their local participating library.

  

Can my child get a Library card? 

Parents/guardians may complete an application form for each child in their family.

  

Can I use my Grapevine, Fort Worth, etc. Library card there?

We do not accept library cards from other libraries. We do accept TexShare cards, however, which may be available for free from your home library.

  

How else can I get a card if I don't live in Southlake?

Students and employees of Carroll ISD may obtain a free library card valid until August 31 of the current school year. City of Southlake employees and members of the Southlake Chamber of Commerce
may obtain a free library card valid for 1 year and renewable annually. All other non-residents pay a card fee of $25 per year.

  

What is the maximum number of items that can be checked out?

A maximum of thirty-six items per card may be checked out. Books and audiobooks may be checked out for two weeks. Videos, kits, DVDs, and CDs are checked our for one week periods.

There is a limit of three of each type of media (DVD, VHS, CD) that can be checked out on a card at the same time.  Movies must be checked out by adults (18 years of age and older), while CDs can only be checked out by patrons who are 16 years of age and older.

Books 25 cents/day

Does the Library have study rooms?

The Library has two study rooms that are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. They can also be reserved.  Please contact the Reference Desk at (817) 748-8247 to place a reservation. There is a 2-hour limit on room use. Each room seats a maximum of four people.  

 

Is there a meeting room in the Library? 

The Library's meeting room seats 10 people. Room use is limited to 2 hours unless prior arrangements are made. Please contact the Rreference desk at (817) 748 8247 for reservations and more information.

  

Is there Internet access in the Library?

Internet access is available in the Library. Before using the Internet, please sign in at the Reference Desk. A Southlake Library card must be presented. People under age 18 who wish to use the Library's computers (other than the Library's catalog) must have a parent or guardian present.

  

What business and office machines are in the Library?

A typewriter and a photocopier are available for use within the Library. There is also a color laserjet printer attached to the public-use computers. Printing costs are 15 cents per page on all printers and copiers.

  

Can I type my school paper or my resume in the Library? 

Microsoft Office programs are available on most of the public computers. Three of the computers allow you to save to and read from a cd or flash drive - check with the Reference Librarian for more information. Printing costs are 15 cents per page.

  

Are computer games available?

Some games are available via the Internet.

  
What types of items are in the Library's collection? 

The Library has books, books on tape and CD, videos, DVDs, music CDs, graphic novels, and magazines for both young and old. There are two special collections, as well: parenting and local history.

The Library also provides several sources of business and personal finance information, including the Wall Street Journal, Investors Business Daily, The Economist, Fort Worth Business Weekly, Dallas Business Weekly, Business Week, Money, Forbes, Fortune, Entrepreneur, and Inc. Magazine,
to name just a few. Call or stop by and make us your business information source!

  

Does the Library accept donations? 

The Library accepts donations of new and used books, DVDs, videos, and CDs. Depending on our current needs, some items will go into the library collection and others will be sold by the Friends of the Southlake Library (FOSL) at our on-going booksale. FOSL uses these proceeds to purchase new materials and equipment for the Library.

  

Can I volunteer at the Library? 

We always welcome volunteers, and have a special need for adult ones. Donating even 2 hours a week makes a big difference, and volunteering at the library is a great way to give back to your community. Please contact Nicola Jesse - or any staff member - for more information!

 

How else can I help the library?
