Background

The Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve encompasses 76 acres of Cross Timbers habitat in northern Southlake.  The Nature Center is an educational resource as well as a natural resource that is destined to further evolve into a distinct landmark within the Southlake community and beyond. As such, the City, the Bob Jones Nature Center Organization, as well as stakeholders from the community began working with consultants from Studio Outside in early 2011 to develop the Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve Master Plan.

After a 6 month long process in which a needs assessment and a number of public meetings were held to allow as much citizen input as possible, the Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve Master Plan was adopted by City Council on June 21, 2011 by Ordinance No. 1002.

The purpose of the Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve Master Plan is to identify an expanded strategy of programs, facilities and visitor experiences.   The Plan was developed with the following criteria in mind:

The Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve Master Plan is a supplement to the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan which is a key component of the Southlake 2030 Plan, the City’s comprehensive plan.  The 2030 update to the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan is scheduled to begin in Fall 2011.
