The City of Southlake is situated five miles from DFW Airport, the second largest airport in the United States.
Southlake staff worked with DFW Airport planners in the late 1980s to identify the best methods of addressing land use incompatibility issues.
The result of this effort was development of Air Corridor Utilization Zones to clearly identify areas of over flight impact to address noise compatibility zones.
DFW Airport Runway Map
Since 2011, when the Airport started conducting runway maintenance; when weather conditions demand it; and more recently with the move towards the Next Generation Air Transporation System (Next Gen), the City has been partnering with DFW Airport to keep residents informed when jets use the diagonal runways for departures and fly outside the compatibility zones.
