Youth Involvement

In Southlake, involving youth and encouraging their participation is considered important in promoting positive youth development and expanding on their skill set. We also believe youth need to be fully engaged in programs as active participants not just bystanders.

We hope our community's youth is able to translate the skills and experiences gained within the programs the City offers to our local community here and wherever the future leads them to.

Southlake Youth Action Commission (SYAC)

The Southlake City Council established the Southlake Youth Action Commission to act as an advisory board to the City Council in all matters effecting youth programs and issues.

The Southlake Youth Action Commission is open to all students in the 9th-10th grades that reside in Southlake and/or attend schools in the Carroll Independent School District (CISD).  The Southlake Youth Action Commission brings youth-related issues to the City Council’s attention, and participates in community service projects throughout the year. For more information, view the SYAC website.

Southlake Kids Interested in Leadership (SKIL)

Southlake Kids Interested in Leadership (SKIL) is a leadership program created in partnership between the City of Southlake, the Carroll Independent School District and the Southlake Chamber of Commerce.

The SKIL Program seeks to facilitate opportunities for advanced engagement by the city’s youth whereby they become more than informants and contributors but are valued as collaborators and decision-makers. For more information, view the SKIL website.
