The City of Southlake has various boards, commissions and committees who act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and in some instances are the final body for action. Southlake residents are appointed to these boards, commissions and committees by the City Council and serve one- or two-year terms, unless appointed to fulfill a vacancy. Members of these boards serve without monetary compensation.
Requirements
All Southlake residents who are registered voters in the City, except youth representatives, who hold no publicly elected office, are eligible for appointment or reappointment to a board or commission. Any potential applicant who is in arrears on any amounts in the payment of taxes or other liability due to the City may be disqualified from consideration. A resident is eligible to vote if he or she is a United States citizen who is a resident of the State of Texas and who has resided in the City of Southlake for at least six (6) months, is at least eighteen (18) years of age (unless specifically noted otherwise in the board’s enabling ordinance), is mentally competent and has not been convicted of a felony.
Board Appointment Process
City Council appointments are generally made in June and October, and as needed throughout the year to fulfill vacancies. Residents are encouraged to review the descriptions which provide a general idea of the duties and requirements of service for each board, commission and committee.
If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact the City Secretary's Office at 817-748-8220.
