In addition to improving roadways and sidewalks, the City of Southlake is working to ensure local cyclists are able to enjoy an increase in mobility safety and convenience. There are currently seven signed bicycle routes in the City, with another eleven future routes included in the Mobility Master Plan (page 66).
Future routes include a dedicated bike lane on Brumlow Avenue and a “sharrow,” or shared bicycle lane, on Kirkwood Boulevard. An on-street sharrow provides a higher level of guidance to both bicyclists and motorists by indicating the bicyclist’s proper positioning within the lane.
In the event there are no dedicated bicycle lanes, some bicyclists, particularly children may prefer sidewalks to roadways. Cyclists may utilize sidewalks as long as they travel slowly, look out for potential hazards and always yield to pedestrians.
