This joint project with TxDOT kicked off in 2018 as an initiative to complete the connection of the SH 114 frontage road from Southlake to Trophy Club. The eastbound and westbound frontage roads currently end as they approach Dove Road and start back up near Kirkwood Blvd. This project will extend it to provide commuters a continuous alternate route from Grapevine to Southlake to Trophy Club. This will reduce the need for drivers to re-enter the highway at Dove Road and exit again at Kirkwood Boulevard to continue on the frontage road.
This project includes the following improvements:
Extension of eastbound and westbound frontage roads (as shown on map)
Exit and entrance ramps reversal to prevent unsafe merging behavior on the main lanes of the highway. TxDOT is taking this approach to highway ramps on its facilities statewide.
Installation of Texas turnarounds at Kirkwood/Solana Boulevard and Dove Road
This TxDOT frontage road project is expected to be fully constructed and open by January 2024.
TxDOT contractors are conducting construction operations along the eastbound of SH 114 Frontage Road, Solana Boulevard and Kirkwood Boulevard exit ramp. Traffic operations for ramp closure and detour set up will begin Sunday, January 16 at 8 p.m. and will run overnight into Monday, January 17, weather permitting.
The ramp will remain closed, and the detour will remain in place until June 2022.
Tree removal associated with this project will take place near the Verizon and TD Ameritrade campuses beginning the week of January 17th and is necessary to accommodate right-of-way and temporary construction needs. Once the project is completed in this area, new trees along the frontage roadway will be planted.
