Heart Talks Toolkit

The purpose of the Mayor's Alliance Heart Talks initiative is to facilitate community connection through conversations that allow people to learn from one another, share personal experiences and convey thoughts about building community.

Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones:  

A True Story of Resilience, Courage and Success

You my recognize Bob Jones as the name on a Southlake park, road, and the nature center. But who was he? 

Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones, were born into slavery. They overcame the challenges of inequality to build a prosperous family along with their farm and ranch along the Denton-Tarrant county line. 

Take a moment and watch this virtual tour of the Southlake Historical Society’s exhibit: Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones, a True Story of Resilience Courage and Success.

Public Art - Be the Bridge

Look all around Southlake, and you’ll find the sculptures that tell our story...Our history, our community, our hopes for the future, and the community that we aspire to be.

Join Mayor Hill and members of the Southlake Arts Council on this virtual tour of art pieces around the city. Be sure to visit the Southlake Public Arts website, www.SouthlakePublicArt.com, for more information about these pieces and a tour of the city’s entire Public Art collection.


Interview with Southlake Resident Tannie Jenkins

As part of the Southlake Public Library's "Stacy on the Street" series, Stacy, our Youth Librarian,  recently interviewed Southlake resident, Tannie Jenkins.  Mrs. Jenkins creates the annual display in the library dedicated to honoring Black History Month and one of her favorite quotes is: "Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom,” by George Washington Carver.  In 2021, Tannie's display included art and books with full-page images for visitors to flip through.

Southlake Police Department Virtual Town Hall

The Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture hosted a Virtual Town Hall on July 29, 2020, with the Southlake Police Department to ask and answer questions Southlake residents have about the Police Department.
