1000 Books Before Kindergarten

To encourage family reading and promote school readiness, the Library offers this new program to families of preschoolers. Ages 5 and under are encouraged to participate. For each 100 books read with a parent or caregiver, children earn rewards recognizing their achievement.  At 1,000 books, they are recognized by the ringing of the bell and the 1000 Books Special Handshake from each Library staff member on duty. A picture is taken during the 1000 books recognition for acknowledgement in the Library's newsletter or Facebook page, as appropriate. This program supports early learning and helps children to develop the skills they need to succeed in school.

Time: 10 AM - 11:30 AM

Children are invited to spend one-on-one time reading to Malbec, a certified therapy dog. Malbec is registered with Pet Partners Therapy Animals and Reading Education Assistance Dog (R.E.A.D.) through Intermountain Therapy Dogs. Reading to a dog promotes a child's love of books by providing an opportunity for them to practice their full range of communication skills. Research indicates that positive experiences like this will help lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning and a higher quality of life. Children can register to have 15 minutes of reading with Malbec, each 1st Saturday of the month from 10 AM - 11:30 AM. Available twice a month in the summer. Reserve Your Spot
