Kids with SKILs - First meeting is coming up soon

Posted on November 16, 2015 at 2:25 PM by Pilar Schank

When I was Mayor, I made a promise to the residents to:

“Immediately form a student and adult alliance for better government and a better Southlake. “SKIL” Southlake Kids Interested in Leading. Young ideas, mentored by local civic leaders, business people and engaged citizens. I want students to participate in a meaningful way to making our community better. We have a responsibility to train future leaders, foster an interest in good government and open ourselves up to a new generation of ideas.”

I am proud to say that SKIL is now a reality.  Twenty Carroll Senior High School students will take a year-long journey towards enhancing their leadership skills, increasing their understanding of their community and most importantly giving back.  The members of this year's SKIL class are:

Rachel Broadway
Jackson Canter
Ashleigh Christmann
Sarah Friske
Taylor Gardiner
Audrey Gow
James Hallingsworth
Asha Jain
Allison Kinnamore
Divya Kumar
Lily Lozier
Arjun Menor
Madeleine Newman
Tilda Nieminen
Faith Osterberg
Morgan Smith
Sheridan Smith
Aditi Tyagi
Billy Wade
Joclyn Ward

Over the next several months you will hear more from me about SKIL and the progress they are making as they learn about leadership and themselves. Like SPARK and SASO, I am excited about what the kids of SKIL will bring to the community.

On behalf of the City, I would like to take opportunity to thank the Carroll Independent School District and the Southlake Chamber of Commerce for their participation in this very worthwhile project. It wouldn’t be possible without them.

I would also like to thank U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant, State Representative Giovanni Capriglione and State Senator Konni Burton for their support.
