[ARCHIVED] More Than Books

Library

The Southlake Library also serves the community through a vast selection of year-round and seasonal programming. In addition to continuous favorites, such as weekly story time programs, patrons can find art classes, reading programs, STEAM programs focused on science education, and special events each month.

A fan favorite is the Library’s Southlake Summer Reading Program which came to a close on August 12. The annual 10-week program is designed to encourage families to incorporate reading into their summer fun and this year’s stats prove that it is once again a bestseller:

The Library hosted 3,911 summer readers, including 563 preschoolers, 2,074 children, 254 teens, and 1,020 adults.
Preschoolers completed 25 pre-literacy activities; children and teens read over 32,000 hours and completed over 7,500 book reviews; and adults used the online Summer Reader Program to share reviews of over 500 books.
The Library also led 52 special programs for families with 9,000 visitors.
