Images of Valor: U.S. Latinos and Latinas of World War II provides a historical overview of U.S. Latino participation in World War II and features historical photographs from the Voces Oral History Center archives and contemporary photographs of men and women of the WWII generation by photojournalist Valentino Mauricio. Images of Valor focuses on individual stories that reveal larger themes such as citizenship and civil rights and features excerpts from the more than five hundred oral history interviews that were part of the project. Images of Valor was created by the School of Journalism and Center for Mexican American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin and produced by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Our chess program for kids is perfect for beginners with no prior chess experience. It will be taught by Chris Cole, a resident of Southlake and parent of children attending Carroll Elementary. Chris has a strong chess background, having been part of a chess club from kindergarten to 6th grade and actively participating in chess tournaments. Chris has previously organized chess clubs at an elementary school and a middle school, and even started a chess club at Baylor University. While Chris continues to enjoy playing chess on a casual basis, his true passion lies in teaching kids how to play. He firmly believes that chess provides an excellent mental exercise, is incredibly fun, and promotes good sportsmanship among children. Registration is required and for ages 5-9 only. Parents must stay in the library or third floor rooms during the program.
